Prairie View A&M is known locally for overselling its dorms. The consequence lands every August.
Students arrive from other states on check-in day, having already paid, and find there is no room. They are suddenly homeless in a state they have never lived in, often at eighteen, usually without a car.
We have put two strangers into an empty apartment and asked the community for furniture. We would rather do that than let someone sleep in a car on Business 290.
